Ready for the most complete Sunday of the year
It has not been very long since the last Moto3 round at Le Mans, only three weeks, although our two Moto2 riders did have a month and a half to prepare for the most complete weekend of the FIM CEV Repsol season, as both Moto3 and Moto2 will have two races this Sunday. A good chance for Pons, Solís and García to gather points for the championship. Edgar is ninth overall in Moto2 and Benny 20th, while in Moto3 Josito García is also 20th.
About today’s work, the sessions were held with a lot of heat and the second sessions with wind and, in most cases, both in Moto3 and Moto2, the Q1 times were the ones that built the grids.
Edgar Pons matched his qualifying of the last race. He now has to decide about the rear tyre, seeing if it can hold until the end of the race or not. He might do a final test in the warm up. Meanwhile, Benny Solís did his best qualifying of this season. By the pace he has shown, it is possible that the soft tyre will last until the end.
Moto2 #57 EdgarPons –Kalex / 2nd / 1.45.459 +0.408s: “I’m happy, because the first qualifying session went well. Nevertheless, I could have improved my fastest lap, because we did some changes that didn’t go well. In the second session we changed the rear tyre and we didn’t have the ideal setup, because it was harder. I’m calm, we have a good starting position and we can be fast. I think that I can take chances in the race, the first laps will be crucial. I’m looking forward to it”.
Moto2 #35 Benny Solís –Kalex / 12th / 1.46.914 +1.863s: “Overall, I’m happy with my progress. We started a bit slow a couple of days ago, but we could get to the pace we had when we tested here and even improve it. The conditions were different, another reason to conclude that we’re improving. I feel better on the Kalex and in the second session we were able to match our best time in worse conditions. With the team we’re better and I feel strong, really looking forward to tomorrow”.
Things did not go well for Josito García. 40th in the first session and 33rd in the second, his grid position is low: 41st, in a packed group of 46. He has two races ahead in which he will have to be patient. For tomorrow there might be some slight change in his KTM and he needs to reset his performance, as he can go faster.
Moto3 #20 Josito García García –KTM / 41º / 1.51.894 +2.220s: “It was a difficult start because we couldn’t find the pace. Tomorrow we’ll start from 41st and will need to improve. Let’s hope we can save this weekend. Thanks to my mechanics and my whole team.”.
