EDGAR PONS IS ONE SECOND OFF THE LEAD
A new outing for the Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team in the Motorcycle World Championship. A week after competing in the FIM CEV Repsol, the AGR team arrives at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to compete with the world leaders of the intermediate class. Edgar Pons, former European Moto2 champion, returns to a paddock he knows well, where he’ll try to get a good result.
As always, Moto2 has proved to be the tightest category. In the first free practice, Edgar has already raced faster than his time in the FIM CEV Repsol classification a week ago, remaining 1 second off the fastest rider, but in 22nd position, with a track temperature of 32ºC. In the second session in the afternoon (44ºC on the tarmac) he was unable to improve his time, dropping three positions. Moto2 is “different” to the FIM CEV, because it uses a softer rear suspension setup to help the tire, which is harder. Edgar does well from curve 7 onwards. But in previous braking operations, he’s uncomfortable, the bike slips too much and his riding lacks precision. Tomorrow we will mount a new “link” from Kalex to try to give Edgar Pons a better ride.
Moto2 #57 EdgarPons –Kalex / 25th / 1.45.276 +1.051s: “The position isn’t what we want, but we are only a second off and I can improve my racing. And the overall set-up of the motorcycle. We’re going to order a part we don’t have and I’m sure that will help with the rear grip when braking. Other riders slip less entering the curve and can make a better line; that’s where I’m losing time. I’m happy to be back in the world championship with the fastest riders. With the changes we’re going to make, we can be further ahead.”
