EDGAR PONS, FACING HIS BEST GRAND PRIX IN CATALUNYA

EDGAR PONS, FACING HIS BEST GRAND PRIX IN CATALUNYA

THE AGR RIDER, WHO TURNS 23 TODAY, WILL START FROM THE SIXTH ROW OF THE GRID IN MOTO2

In the end, the Kalex part didn’t arrive, but it didn’t matter. Edgar Pons did a superb job today, along with the Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team, on this Saturday of the final free practice and Moto2 classification at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Edgar Pons, who turns 23 today, has earned his best ever starting classification in his home GP, and tomorrow he hopes to beat his best finish position, which was 17th in 2015 and 2016.

The AGR team has provided Pons with a motorcycle that helps to give better control over skidding. Everyone enters some of the corners at an angle, but yesterday he wasn’t accurate, and today, he was a bit more precise. It’s down to improvements in the front end, the geometry, and the forks. In the third free practice he was 12th, with the tyres he’ll use in the race, the same ones he used for qualification. For the official practice, the team made some more adjustments and finished 18th, a second off Quartararo’s pole position. The truth is, as the session progressed, the track became ever more slippery. Everything’s set up for a Sunday where the most important thing will be to enjoy a job well done. Good luck Edgar, and congratulations!

Moto2 #57 EdgarPons –Kalex / 18th / 1.44.512 +1.038s: “”We made some adjustments in the front end of the bike and it helped me with the braking, so I wouldn’t skid so much. In the morning, I felt very strong, very happy, with good rhythm. During the classification, I suffered a bit more when the temperature rose. But it won’t be so hot during the race. I think we can do well. Yesterday, together with the team, we planned these changes really well and I’m really looking forward to making a good start and having a good race. So far, it’s my best Grand Prix of Catalunya. Coming here and achieving these times, without having raced the World Championship, proves that we’re doing well in the AGR family. They help me correct my shortcomings. It’s going well”.

Tomorrow, Moto2 race at 12:20h over 22 laps.
