Sixth row for the Catalan rider of the Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team

The Spanish rider of the Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team in Moto2, Edgar Pons, took an important step forward this Saturday, together with his team, as he had a more competitive Kalex to really fight with the World Championship riders in Moto2. During the third free session, his pace was already good and he confirmed it in Qualifying, although Edgar thinks that there is still margin to improve.

During the third free practice, Pons used a different Moto2 than yesterday, with some modifications in the suspension and geometry, specially thinking about the bike’s braking power and the entrance to two particular corners without having the drive close.

In Qualifying, the suspension and geometry was again modified and when the rider entered his garage, for the first time he did not ask for anything, which is a good sign that the bike was completely to his liking. The idea was to take advantage of the paradox that the first laps in Qualifying are actually the best, as the rubber of the MotoGP Michelin tyres can be used at its best, although today Binder secured the pole at the end of the session. For the second half of the session there were no racing tyres left. Edgar Pons feels confident on the bike that team is giving him and with a good start, he could do a solid race tomorrow.

Moto2 #57 Edgar Pons –Kalex / 17th. / 1.53.976 +0.827s: “We took a great step forward in the setup since yesterday, considering the tyre distribution we have here in Motorland. Yesterday it was difficult to trust the front tyre, but today the pace was good. This afternoon we wanted to improve a bit more, though it was very hot. We might have managed better the first part of the session, as I went out alone, without references, and it was more difficult. We did two outings and we already knew the second would be worse because there were no tyres left of the ones we like. I think we can still improve a bit, let’s see if we can get better in the warm-up, but the important thing is that we are ready to do a good race”.
