After three months stopped due to the pandemic, FIM CEV Repsol has finally started at the Estoril circuit in Portugal. Free Practices took place on Saturday and Sunday, and Qualifying sessions for the first round were held today. The lack of training during the preseason has not been a problem to show a good performance by Gerard Riu and Taiga Hada. Joel Kelso will need to overtake positions.

Today Gerard Riu has made clear that he will be one of the candidates to fight for the Moto3 Championship. Riu is decided to not give any opportunity to his rivals. After achieving the tenth fastest time in the first qualifying practice, the target in the second qualifying was to get the best lap in the last minutes. Finally, Riu finished the session with the best time. He will start in sixth place, but his performance today was a declaration of intent that he will be fighting for the victory from the first lap.

Taiga Hada, meanwhile, has been very comfortable since the beginning. After some problems in the first session, he finished tenth. However, in the second qualifying Hada made a better session. This has allowed him to improve the rhythm and to reduce the gap with the leading riders, achieving the seventh best position. In this way, after the combination of times, tomorrow will take up the tenth position on the starting grid.

Finally, the Australian Joel Kelso has had a complicated start to the championship. Despite a crash because of some oil was on the track during Saturday’s free practice, he has been working hard with the team to find the best feelings with the bike. The twentieth eighth place of the first session was his best result today. In the second qualifying practice the heat has taken its toll on the riders and has forced them to slow down, for this reason Joel will start tomorrow from the thirtieth position.
Tomorrow will take place the most expected moment: the first races of the 2020 FIM CEV Repsol season. Warm Up sessions will start at 9:00 a.m. (local time). Moto2 races will be at 12:00 and at 2:00 p.m. As for Moto3, they will play a single race at 1:00 p.m.

Gerard Riu 6º (QP1: 10º / QP2: 1º) 1:44.939: “Today was a very positive day fo rus. I didn’t have the same feeling riding the bike than yesterday but we’ve improved. On the second session we fecused on working for the race and looking for a fast lap at the end. Despite the hot weather I felt really good. We only have to solve some details and I will be fighting for the victory tomorrow. I want to thank my team for all the hard work.”

Taiga Hada 10º (QP1: 10º / QP2: 7º) 1:42.247: “I wasn’t very happy with the bike in the first session because I was uncomfortable with the front of the bike in some turns. In the second session we made some changes on the set up and together witht the tyres made me get a better result. I have good feelings, a very good rhythm and I think we can make a nice race tomorrow.”

Joel Kelso 30º (QP1: 28º / QP2: 33) 1:46.736: “It was a difficult start this weekend because yesterday we had some problems on track. We have been working well as a team and we have improved in each session. I felt comfortable on the bike during the first qualifying. The second qualifying was very hot and I tried my best but the result was only a thirty third position. Anyway, we are working very well as a team and I’m focused on the race. We’ll keep improving.”

With this press release we start the new AGR Racing Team project. A new project, but based on the values that Karlos Arguiñano showed us. We hope to continue on the path of work that have made this team great.
