The AGR Team rider is now third in the Moto2 European Championship and just thirteen points behind the leader
The fifth FIM JuniorGP round ended on a high note for the AGR Team with another podium finish for Milan Pawelec. The Polish rider showed great consistency after starting from tenth on the grid and made a remarkable comeback to secure his third podium finish of the season in his rookie year.
Pawelec went from tenth on the grid and moved up to third with just two laps to go. With today's result at Misano, Pawelec is now third in the Moto2 European Championship standings with 111 points, just thirteen points behind the leader.
In JuniorGP, the first race began with the misfortune of Marianos Nikolis crashing out. The AGR Team rider, who started with high expectations, went down in the early stages as he sought to move up to the front group. On the fourth lap, the red flag was shown and the race was restarted with a distance of seven laps. In this race, Kgopotso Mononyane showed his good pace and managed to complete a great comeback to eleventh position. In this first race, Owen Van Trigt finished twenty-second and Yvone Cerpa twenty-fourth.
In the second race, Mononyane fought again in one of the front groups and scored points again after crossing the finish line in fifteenth place, although he was affected by arm pump. Marianos Nikolis was twenty-first, followed by Owen Van Trigt, and Yvonne Cerpa finished twenty-sixth.
Milan Pawelec: "It was very difficult at the beginning, I started tenth and I struggled. But I knew I could move forward, I knew I had a better pace than the riders in front of me. As the laps went by, I felt more comfortable and gained positions, and in the end I pushed hard to get on the podium. It was a very good result, congratulations to Alberto Surra and Xabi Zurutuza for their race, now we are already thinking about Barcelona. We are now third in the championship and it's very close, so we're going to go for it."
Kgopotso Mononyane: "We had two good races today. We knew we could be at the front because we had been on a very good pace since Thursday. The qualifying session didn't go well for us, but we knew the pace was there because we had trained for it. In the first race, I started twenty-third and finished eleventh, and I was even ninth on the last lap, but it was a tough battle with the group. We also had the fifth fastest lap of the race. In the second race, we started with a lot of confidence and fought for the top 10 again, but it was difficult to finish because I had problems with arm pump. It was a positive weekend, and we hope to take more steps forward in Barcelona."
Marianos Nikolis: "We had bad luck today. We felt very strong after having the best Saturday of the season. In the first race, I crashed at the start, and in the second race we suffered more than expected with the heat. I hope our luck changes in Barcelona, we will continue to work hard."
Owen Van Trigt: "Overall, the weekend wasn't bad. We have to look at how we started on Thursday and how we improved every day. It's true that we suffered with the heat and the tyres in the second race, and that affected me too. The team worked very well and if we continue on this path, we can be further ahead in Barcelona."
Yvonne Cerpa: "The first race went very well because I moved up eight positions at the start, although we had to stop due to a red flag. When the race resumed, I got off to another great start and was able to keep up with a fast group. In the last two laps, I made a few mistakes and fell behind, but I'm happy. In the second race, we didn't do so well. I fell behind from the start, so I tried to push and set my own pace. We'll take away the positives and the growth we've made over the weekend, which has been a lot. Now it's time to think about Barcelona."
